The Sony WH-1000XM5 are Sony's flagship headphones and, since their launch, among the most award-winning over-ear headphones on the market – known for industry-leading noise cancelling, audiophile sound and a lightweight, comfortable design that does not become tiring even after hours of wear.
At the heart of the noise cancelling is the combination of two dedicated processors and eight microphones, which analyse and eliminate ambient noise in real time. The Auto NC Optimizer automatically adapts the noise cancelling to your surroundings and the fit of the headphones – whether on a plane, in the office or on the underground. The system really shows its strength with high-frequency noise such as air conditioning, aircraft noise and background chatter. Ambient Sound mode can be activated at the touch of a button and lets you stay fully aware of your surroundings – without having to take the headphones off.
For sound, Sony has fitted a completely newly developed 30 mm driver which, combined with DSEE Extreme – Sony's AI-powered upscaling technology – enhances even compressed music files in real time to near Hi-Res level. LDAC support transmits up to three times more audio data wirelessly than conventional Bluetooth, enabling true Hi-Res Audio Wireless – music sounds the way the artist originally intended. Sony's 360 Reality Audio brings a spatial sound experience to the headphones, positioning instruments and vocals in different directions around the listener.
For calls and voice control, four beamforming microphones combined with advanced signal processing ensure crystal-clear voice transmission – even in noisy environments. Speak-to-Chat automatically detects when you start speaking and instantly switches to Ambient Sound, so you can have conversations without taking the headphones off. Multipoint Connection allows simultaneous connection to two devices – one click is enough to switch between laptop and smartphone.
The ultra-lightweight design with soft synthetic leather and contoured ear cups stays comfortable even after hours, without pressure points. The battery lasts up to 30 hours with active noise cancelling – and 3 minutes of quick charging provides another 3 hours of playback when you are in a hurry. The intuitive touch controls on the right ear cup let you play/pause, skip tracks, adjust the volume and manage calls with swipe gestures. Available in Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue and Smoky Pink – each colour with a matching carrying case made of high-quality material.
